Who are Sei Mio?

How It Looks

The Sei Mio Correction Collection playset arrives in a stylish box with a greyscale model on the front, holding the product. Text at the top reads “Sei Mio – you’re mine” and at the bottom, in a red banner, “the perfect selection to tame insurrection”. I like this approach: it’s playful and fun, which is exactly what we’re all about!

On the side is an explanation about Sei Mio’s Italian passion, but not why they’re passionate about Italy. They’re passionate about passion, quality and affordability though, and I’m good with that!

On the back is a short story, some tips, tricks and instructions, which I think is so helpful for BDSM beginners. There’s also a photograph with pointers to what each accessory is, which I think is really helpful. Finally, there’s a fun little game using the number dice and the ruler!

The impact play set arrives in a velvet wrap case, secured with a velcro strap and sealed in a plastic bag. I’m not completely for the plastic bag: at a time when we’re supposed to be cutting down on single-use plastic, plastic-wrapping something that’s not meant for insertion feels a bit in excess.

Another interesting thing: some accessories have wrist straps, one has a sort of finger loop, others have nothing at all. The ones that have wrist straps only have straps made out of a piece of ribbon. Even if Sei Mio just did that, I feel like keeping them consistent would have been better — riding crops can fall out of your hand, too!

It’s a small thing, but I really like the criss-cross pattern on the flogger, and some of the ideas on the ruler are fun too. One idea (ruler on the hand) is a hard limit for me though, and I strongly discourage anyone from using the stinger across their partner’s back — I’m taking half a star for that! Also, I’m not sure I like the company logo on the tip of the riding crop — I’m imagining that could come up as a welt on someone’s bum!

We measured them so you don’t have to. The stinger measures 46cm, the crop measures 34cm, the flogger 35cm, the ruler 30cm (of course it wood 😉) and the paddle 43cm.

How It Handles

For this section I’m going to summarise Master Levi’s thoughts, because this little kitten lives under no-touching-Daddy’s-toys rules!

Paddle: Master really likes the paddle; it’s easy to hold, has a wide grip and it’s firm. It makes a delightful sound, which Master says would be especially lovely at events (kind of him!). Master likes the wrist strap, too.

Flogger: Master is picky here because he (we) like suede floggers with more weight to them, so this one was never going to win us out. It’s a small and compact faux leather flogger, and Master discovers that it’s quite sweet for boobs, inner thighs and sit spots. I want to hate him, but I’m compelled to love him.

Ruler: This versatile little ruler handles well. It feels light, but even when moderately applied, it doesn’t break. The sadist has learned how and where to apply it for maximum squeaks. I disapprove.

Crop: Small and compact, but kind of fiddly to use. At a little over a foot long it doesn’t have much give or much distance, meaning you have to be quite close to have much impact, and even then, you’re almost within striking range yourself. It’s a cute idea, but Master didn’t feel it executed particularly well.

Stinger: It’s a fun idea, but it’s so short, it could be used as a pointer to deliver lectures more than it could to punish an unruly submissive! We like the idea of shortening a cane, but it’s so short, it almost fails completely as a concept.

Dice: We loved this idea! You get a D12 (you’re welcome 😉) and a six-sided die with the implements on it, plus “hand”. The text is white print on black plastic, giving them a stylish look. If nothing else, we absolutely loved playing with these — we just might add our own implements to our play in future for better impact play!

How It Feels

Of course this is the bit where I get to provide my own footnotes. Of course it is!

Paddle: Actually quite a delightful little paddle, if there was ever such a thing. I don’t love paddles but this one is tolerable, which is to say that I won’t bite my husband’s hand off for yielding it. It does sting, but I’m undecided if that’s the implement or the applier. Both can be considered a pain in the ass.

Flogger: I’m totally biased with this flogger because it kind of depends on what kind of pain you like. I detest stingy pain but I love thuddy, deep pain, and this flogger sadly delivers more of the former. So if you like stingy surface pain then you’ll probably love this flogger, but if, like me, you like a heavier flogger that makes sitting down uncomfortable to do, then this flogger is probably too light for you.

Ruler: I had to try it, because there was only one way to test it and only one way to stop myself living with that bad memory, but… this ruler just doesn’t sting like I remember rulers stinging. It stings a bit, but again, if you like pain, this ruler just isn’t delivering a whole lot. Maybe it would have been stingier made out of acrylic? I’m not sure. Either way, I think the ideas are better than the impact.

Crop: As a crop aficionado and judging it by how it feels, this is a good crop — it hits (no pun intended) all the right spots. It sounds good, it feels good, I have no reason to dislike it. Do I think its shortness diminishes the whole anticipatory thing that a longer crop might offer? A little bit, yes, but it’s still not a bad crop.

Stinger: I was worried about this one because I’ve had a bad experience with being caned before, but actually, this was kind of a big nothing. Now, it’s not that I’m into being thrashed old schoolroom style — I have absolutely no desire to be corporally disciplined — but even from a sensational point of view, I think the fabric cover on the stinger helps to prevent the sting that our fibreglass cane normally delivers. It’s fun and funky, but again, a bit short to be truly impactful.

Dice: We had too much fun with these, and I think in an impact play set, it’s such a fun idea. Okay sure, so not knowing what was coming next added a real fear to our play, but hey, that’s kind of the whole idea. You can even add rules, like adding the numbers up or sequencing the implements (so, say, 24 strokes spread over 3 implements, 8 strokes of each). If you’re into impact play, these dice are so much fun!

It’s hard to be critical of this set because on the whole, it hits all the marks: aesthetically pleasing, well made, fun, affordable, delivers sensation. Could it be more stingy? Probably yes, and we still reserve the right to be critical about encouraging people to hit their partner across the back. On the whole, the Sei Mio Correction Collection impact play set is a good set, it’s just probably far better suited to people looking to step into the world of BDSM than it is for seasoned players. 4 stars.
