Hello Lovelies and welcome to our UNION Protocol review!

I am delighted to have been approached by Mathias, who is one of the developers of UNION Protocol, and given access to test and promote the app. Longstanding readers will know that we have used and promoted Obedience before, but due to poor contact and questionable affiliate terms, we ended our partnership with them. I have had nothing but a wonderful experience in working with Mathias, which gives me every confidence that you will love UNION Protocol, too!

Also a special thank you to my partner in crime, Admiral Snookiebear, who has been trialing the UNION Protocol app with me!

Alright, let’s dig into the app!

Snapshot Verdict

Pros: Sleek design. Active tracking of a D/s dynamic with a variety of great features and games (Elite tier). One price for both partners (per month) makes it much cheaper than competitors.

Cons: Text can be hard to read. Occasionally glitchy.

Best for: All kinds of kinky people! It is useful for those into solo dominance and self-chastity, couples in a D/s relationship whether near or afar, polycules and even professional Dominants with many submissives in their care.

Who Are Accord Studios Ltd?

Accord Studios Ltd is an independent software studio based in London and Berlin, focused on building thoughtful, privacy-first digital products. They’re the team behind UNION Protocol, a platform that helps consenting adults manage their D/s dynamics, track activities, and connect with like-minded people, with a strong focus on anonymity, end-to-end encryption, and minimal data collection.

UNION Protocol Relationship App: Product Description

Union Protocol is designed for people and couples wanting to create a dynamic that works for them. Make use of tasks, create rituals, set rewards and punishments, provide outfit reveals and build a fun session with the “Union Play” wheel (Elite tier only). Whether you play alone or with a partner, Union Protocol has fun in store for you.

Getting Into Our Protocol

Union Protocol loads up on a graphite grey screen with pale gold symbols, creating something that feels like stepping into a secret club. With artistic symbols, fading text and slowly spinning symbols, it feels like joining something undiscovered. Step into the world of UNION Protocol and see where your journey takes you.

One thing that did confuse me slightly from the start was the decision to use “Dominant”, “Switch” or “Obedient”, rather than using “Submissive”. I did ask Mathias about that decision as it seemed like quite an interesting decision, after all, not every “Obedient” is obedient straight away!

Mathias explained that that was an old artefact from earlier developments but the wording would be changed in future updates. I noticed that it is still there on the home screen, though it appears to have been changed when you set your dynamic up. However, I’m confident that Mathias and his team will get the app more streamlined as time goes on.

Unlike some apps, there are lots of slow slide screens on the start up, which can’t be skipped. Although they feel sleek and do rather lean into the sense of stepping into a secret club, they do also lengthen how long it takes to get into the app itself. Nice for making you slow down and enter this world with intentionality rather than raging hormones, but still perhaps frustrating for those who want something quick and simple to set up.

Onboarding was a little tricky at first but Mathias was only ever an email away. Whenever I had a query about navigating the app, Mathias was quick to respond with screenshots to help me understand.

UNION Protocol Features

Once inside, you can set up tasks, create rituals, rewards, punishments and more. There are preset rewards, tasks and punishments, but you can edit them, delete them, and add your own. Add as many tasks as you like too! Unlike other apps, there is no paywall on how many tasks, rewards or punishments you can add.

One tiny caveat: a submissive can add tasks, but only the Dominant partner can add rewards or punishments, so a submissive can’t add rewards or punishments to their own tasks if their Dominant hasn’t set them up. In this regard the app feels stricter than Obedience, and does make a submissive more dependent on their Dominant when setting things up. Although I wouldn’t challenge my Sirs’ authority, I do like being able to manage myself a little, rather than giving them a whole other job to do!

Let’s talk about the cards! Forget about lengthy checklists and awkward conversations, Kink Match allows you to select “yes”, “no” or “maybe” to participate in a kink using simple swipe cards, just like finding a match on a dating app. No need to sit down and have awkward conversations, just swipe and let UNION Protocol tell you both when you match.

Finally, be sure to join the Wall of Sins! Here you can connect with other UNION Protocol users, find a partner and have fun in the community. Share your journey, your chastity stories, take part in Locktober (when open) and more.

With UNION Protocol Elite, you can unlock even more features! Create mood check-ins, write and share journal entries and track task completion history. Into chastity and orgasm control? You need the chastity and orgasm tracker! Track locked time, toy use, edges, orgasms and more.

Send outfit reveals to your partner! Whether they’re cosy, sexy or just plain silly, Outfit Reveal allows you to strike a pose and send a reveal from plain clothes to your chosen outfit, and allows them to see it with a swipe or “scratch card” style reveal. This fun feature adds an exciting flair for long-distance couples.

Not sure for your next play time together or stuck for self-punishment ideas? Build your wardrobe full of toys, outfits, furniture, rewards and punishments, then let a spin of the Wheel of Revelations decide your fate. Play as many times as you like, too!

Design & Development

One thing we really love is how secure the app is — it doesn’t just look exclusive, it feels exclusive! The app lock allows you to secure the app with touch ID, face ID or a custom pin, and all of your data is end-to-end encrypted throughout the app. There’s no in-app analytics, third party trackers, no email address required and no ads. The only one who sees your data is you and your partner..

Something else we like about the UNION Protocol app is that the app icon itself is discreet. Unlike Obedience, screen discretion is not something you have to pay for — it’s a given from the start.  There’s no clunky collar logo, it’s simply a grey tile with “UNION” across the centre in white text. That may seem understated, but it’s so appreciated!

Something we don’t like, however, is that navigation can be a bit clumsy sometimes, and the text on screen can be too small for effective reading in some parts of the app. While the daylight mode can be too bright and wash out the text, the dark mode can be too visually heavy. There doesn’t appear to be an accessibility function either, which makes the app potentially difficult to use for people with poor eye health.

Another thing we didn’t like, and all to do with rewards and punishments, is that some of the features still feel a bit unfinished. For example, points can only be awarded or deducted in tens (even though 5, 20 and 50 are displayed options), which rather defeats the point of them being there, and sometimes the task history glitches and only shows a calendar, forcing you to restart the app. Also, the Dominant has to approve everything: reward points? Approve them. Punishment? Issue it. Unlike Obedience, the app won’t do it automatically. Although it’s only very small things that can be easily rectified or reconsidered, it does serve to remind you that UNION Protocol is still very much under development.

Pricing

UNION Protocol offers a free tier which incudes unlimited tasks, punishments and rewards, rituals and activities. You can also access the Wall of Sins — UNION Protocol’s in-app community — and use the private in-app chat.

UNION Protocol offers three Elite tiers: a weekly tier at £2.99 (ideal for a kinky getaway!), a monthly tier at £9.99, or an annual tier at £59.99 (includes 14-day free trial). Unlike competitors, these prices include partners at no extra cost, making them a great deal for couples and long-distance dynamics. A month with Obedience costs £6.99 per person (or £13.98 total), versus £9.99 per month for BOTH partners with UNION Protocol — that’s a saving of nearly 30%!

PLUS, with our link, you can enjoy your first month of UNION Protocol Elite monthly subscription completely FREE!

UNION Protocol Is Perfect For Polycules!

Do you have more than one partner? No problem! You can add up to four partners for the same great price (you’ll just need to sign out and start a new profile for each relationship dynamic as you can only pair each profile with one partner at a time!).

UNION Protocol Relationship App:

The Verdict

UNION Protocol is a no-brainer. Whether you’re trying kink solo or you’re in a D/s relationship, the app’s sleek design and multitude of features are great to keep you engaged and interested. The bonuses of the Elite tier are also great for anyone dedicated to the BDSM lifestyle and for all the reasons mentioned above, and we love the very reasonable pricing and excellent customer service. If Accord Studios Ltd can improve on the little niggles we highlighted, it’s a 5-star app!
