Hello Lovelies,
Summer is here and it’s officially (psst.. not really) too hot for housework, the garden is now in bloom and I was distracted from my typing this afternoon by a rather clumsy bunblebee flying against our living room window. I didn’t see it fly off so I hope it’s okay, perhaps minus the concussion and the bruised ego!
And so, without further ado…
What Happened In June?
1. Master Levi Lost His Job… And Found A New One!
Job loss can be a stressful time for anyone, and especially seeing my brother struggle to find a job himself and the number of jobs that Master wasn’t successful for, the future was looking increasingly grim for us. We knew that we would have to sign on to claim benefits, and all of the little life luxuries we’d enjoyed for so long would have to come to an end until Master found work again. We counted down the days to his last payslip, knowing that we’d face a difficult few weeks whilst I swapped from ESA to Universal Credit.
Fortunately our greatest fears didn’t come to pass, as three days before Master’s final payslip, he received a phonecall from another company who offered him a new job! The rate of pay is much better and Master only needs to catch one bus to and from work, rather than two, which makes his daily commute that much shorter. Master will be in the office for five days a week too, so I’m finally taking back my old desk, five years later!
Oh, and I’m pinching his old monitor, too 😉
2. We Learned That My Mum Needs Major Surgery
Alright, so it wasn’t as amazing as last year, yet somehow, we still had a nice time. We had a small gathering with family, which was pleasant, and we ordered in a curry for on the day (though we planned to go out to eat) It wasn’t much, and yet sometimes it doesn’t need to be much – it’s not about what you do, what matters is who you’re with!

3. I Was Completely And Utterly Spoilt
In light of our anticipated financial situation and our recovery from Storm Darragh last year, one of the things we couldn’t afford was flowers for the garden, and just as summer had begun, the thought of a summer with no flowers in the garden was really getting me down. I didn’t want for much, just some begging plants in containers would be nice, but as we weren’t sure what was happening, we couldn’t dare to splash out on unessential things.
Fortunately my mother, the kind soul that she is, heard our plight and came to our rescue. Mum delivered three trays of plants and several pots, including petunias, cosmos, begonias and more. We now have colour in our garden to enjoy this summer, all because of our truly awesome family.
Oh, and as if that was my only spoiling, I moved two containers that I planned to donate to Mr C’s side of the garden, and he built wooden planters for them and painted them in the colours I said I liked. So even if we’re just friends, there’s no denying that ours is a truly special friendship!
4. I Gave Up On My Friendship with Martin
I didn’t really want to have to do this and I have been thinking a lot about this, but in the name of honesty and transparency, I feel as though I have to. You may recall that I mentioned my penpal friend, Martin, who had very kindly offered to illustrate our Sex Position Reviews posts for us. Unfortunately, the last time I spoke to Martin, he sent me a bunch of indecent photos and tried to engage me in sexual conversation, even in spite of my insistence that I was trying to work. I also found that the only time I really heard from Martin was when he wanted to talk about sex, and sex is great, but it’s not all I like to talk about. I thought about blocking Martin, but I decided that simply cutting contact might be kinder. There’s no need to be mean to someone, just because you’re not compatible.

5. I Found Malaysian Trumpet Snails In My Main Fish Tank
Some people think Malaysian Trumpet Snails are a pest snail, but I actually find their conical, patterned shells pretty cool. I have no idea how they got there – I haven’t bought or added any new plants recently – but now that they’re there, I’m cool with it. They’re totally peaceful and they help to use up any uneaten food – a nice little freebie and a rather welcome addition to my clean-up crew, I think!
